Rosie the Riveter wishes you a HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

So I posted last week about my Halloween plans and told you all that I was dressing up as Rosie the Riveter.  My costume turned out perfect!!  And the best part ya'll...it only cost me $15 to make the whole thing!!  You can't beat that!  Are you ready to see the pictures?  Here goes...

I am very pleased with how well my poster turned out.  All it is, is a navy blue piece of foam board from Hobby Lobby, a yellow poster board, also Hobby Lobby and white card stock was used for the letters.  I free-handed the "voice bubble" for the lettering.  For the letters I blew up a picture of the poster from the Internets and printed out each word on a separate piece of paper, then cut those out, traced them and had clean white letters.  It took me about 10 minutes to make!  EASY!!

Now for the fun part...all the pictures I took at the Cedar Springs Street Party.  I'm only posting the PG-13 pictures...you'd be amazed what people wear down there.  They use it as an excuse to wear just their undies...which I find weird! :)

The "black" Swan, Dolly and the Black/White Swan

This was awesome!  Harry and Voldemort!  The Voldemort guy was pretty scary up close!

I couldn't get a good picture of this one...it's "The Hungry Monster" from the WW's commercials.  Fellow dieters will appreciate this one!

Another one I had trouble getting a good picture of...this guy was on stilts and as you can see, taller than the firetruck.  He was with a group of scary clowns.  I hate clowns!!  Probably why I didn't get a good picture, I was scared to get too close!

Dead Pee-Wee Herman with my friend Leah, her face is priceless!

My friend Heather and I.  She was a Fraggle Rock...bless her heart, so many younger people didn't understand what she was!  I think she looked adorable!!

I loved this girls peacock costume..it was beautiful!

My friend Glenna with Brandi and her husband Casey.  They all looked amazing!  Brandi and her mom made Casey's costume on Saturday, they did a terrific job!!

Edward Scissor Hands.  I bet those hands got annoying after awhile...how did he drink or eat?

We found Heather some fellow characters!

As you can imagine, there were a lot of Lady Gaga's, this girl looked great!!  Not the one in the purple...not sure what she even is...

This group was fun...she is Eve and her apple was blingy, loved it!

SIMON, remember that game?  Awesome costume!

Glenna aka The Red Queen

 Casey aka The Mad Hatter

Black Swan

My friend Corey and I.  Didn't he look cute?!

And last, but certainly not least...the cutest Halloween Ducky, ever...my nephew Zane!

Happy Halloween Ya'll...

Ready for Halloween?

Are you ready for Halloween?  What are you going to be?  I'm almost ready.... I just have one more thing to make for my costume!  I like to make my own costumes if possible!  Have you ever noticed how expensive the costumes are at costume places and you get it out of the bag and it's paper thin and just cheap looking!?!  So why not make your own...you'll probably spend less money and have a much better costume!

This year I'm going as Rosie the Riveter!

Since we just bought a house and have so many things that we want to do to it, I was on a strict budget...as in, I didn't want to spend over $20, so I needed a costume that I could make for cheap and use items I already have!  Rosie fit the bill! I started googling "Rosie the Riveter Costume" to get inspiration and I found a lot, but the look I'm going for is this one...

I got a blue piece of foam board and yellow poster board at Hobby Lobby and I'm going to make a sign like the one above.  I haven't decided how I'm going to attach it to me yet...I bought some elastic, thinking I would make it so that it can go around my arms and be on my back.
Not sure what I'll do just yet...any suggestions?
Then I went to a local thrift store to find a denim shirt, I found one for $3!  Score!  I have a red scarf and I'm just going to wear jeans and carry a wrench or some tools in my pocket!
Total cost of my costume is under $15!

So...do you wonder where I'm going to wear this costume?  I live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex and each year there is this HUGE street party on Cedar Springs...in the gayborhood, as we like to call it.  It is SO much fun and you see the most outrageous costumes!!!  People literally work on their costumes all year long!  It's crazy!  You see some really awesome costumes and some that are questionable...below are some fun pictures from past years at the parade!

I took my honey for the first time a few years ago...it was definitely an experience for him and he said he'll
stick to deer hunting!  He does not care to go back.  Here he is, we were lumberjacks this year.  Another homemade costume!

We found us a group of lumberjacks!  They really liked My Honey!

An example of the over the top costumes!

There is a person in that tree!  Crazy!  It took them forever to walk down the street!  I'm a goddess this year, I made this costume too.

 I think this is 2007...

 Edward Scissor Hands!  Awesome costume!

I'll post pictures of my costume next week! I hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween weekend!!

Fall, My Favorite Time of the Year!

I'm not sure when it happened but at some point in my adult life I began to love decorating for Fall more than any other time of the year!!  Even more than Christmas.  Maybe it's because it's fun but not quite as much work as Christmas.  Anyhow...I've been meaning to post pictures of my Fall decor in my new house!!  I had so much fun decorating my new house this year!!
